Welcome To Frederick Youth Leadership Council

My name is Cari Ripley and I am a 5th grade 

teacher at Frederick Elementary in Frederick. 

I am currently trying to raise money to send about 

70 fifth graders who attend Frederick Public 

School to Washington, D.C. this summer.  When I first

came up with this idea, I went to my superintendent, 

and asked if there was any way we could do this.  

Regretfully, Frederick Public Schools cannot fund it

 because of the budget shortfalls.  If we want to go, 

the students would have to pay their own way. The 

student’s participation in the 5 day/4 nights comes 

to $1600.  (all inclusive)The sad thing is, about 75% 

of the students enrolled in Frederick Public Schools 

qualify for free or reduced lunch.  

Being the determined person that I am, I started talking 

to other teachers, and we came up with an idea to start 

our own organization.  We formed the Frederick Youth 

Leadership Council, came up with our By-laws, and elected 

officers.  We even received our own Tax-deductible ID 

number for non-profit organizations!
